Bank Alfalah Islamic is the governance benchmark among Pakistan's Islamic windows, and the numbers behind it are mostly public. Its Musharaka Savings Account paid 7.06% in August 2026, Falah Mahana Amdani paid 7.29%, the Senior Citizens Savings Account paid 7.40% and the Alfa Term Deposit paid between 8.61% and 9.18%. Its auto finance is a plain Ijarah: a minimum 30% security deposit, rentals that start only after delivery, Rs 13,500 in documentation charges, a 6% charge on the outstanding asset value if you buy out early, and a 30% a year late-payment amount that goes to charity rather than to the bank. Home finance is a Diminishing Musharakah. Everything below comes from bankalfalah.com documents dated between February 2025 and October 2026.

What kind of institution Bank Alfalah Islamic is
Bank Alfalah Islamic Banking was set up in 2003 as a dedicated division inside Bank Alfalah Limited, a conventional bank, and now operates around 451 dedicated Islamic branches in 106 cities plus the Alfa app. That makes it a window, not a full-fledged Islamic bank like Meezan Bank, and the practical difference is covered in our explainer on Islamic banks versus Islamic windows. The short version is that your deposit sits in a segregated Islamic pool with its own Shariah board, but the parent's balance sheet is conventional until the SBP's 2028 conversion programme completes. Our Bank Alfalah Islamic profile calls it the governance benchmark of the window segment, and the reason is the paperwork described in the next section.
The bank's about page links four fatwa documents: a general Islamic banking fatwa, an Urdu fatwa on the bank's Islamic operations, and separate fatwas for asset products and liability products, both dated 27 February 2025. Few Pakistani windows publish product-level fatwas with dates. The Shariah Board profile, dated 29 August 2025, is chaired by Dr Mufti Khalil Ahmad Aazami, who the bank describes as a member of the State Bank's Shariah Advisory Committee and of AAOIFI committees, with Mufti Muhammad Mohib ul Haq Siddiqui, chairman of Faysal Islamic's board, and Mufti Aqeel Akhtar, the bank's in-house unit head, among the members. If the question you have is whether a window can be properly governed, this is the window to test the argument on.
Savings account profit rates and the weightages behind them
Islamic deposits at Bank Alfalah are Mudarabah investments, so the rate is declared after the month ends rather than promised in advance. The bank publishes two documents each month: the actual returns sheet and the weightages sheet. The August 2026 returns sheet, the latest on the site on 28 September 2026, shows the following per-annum rates on the main rupee accounts, all with monthly profit distribution and calculation on the monthly average balance unless noted.
| Account | August 2026 rate | Profit paid | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alfalah Musharaka Savings Account | 7.06% | Monthly | General savers |
| Falah Mahana Amdani Account | 7.29% | Monthly | Monthly income on any balance |
| Khayaal Rakhna Account | 7.23% | Bi-annual | Savers who can wait six months |
| Asaan Saving, Asaan Digital, Women Digital, Alfa Saving Islamic | 7.17% | Monthly or bi-annual by variant | Digital and low-documentation accounts |
| Falah Senior Citizens Savings Account | 7.40% | Monthly | Over 60s |
| Falah Senior Citizens Term Deposit | 7.75% to 8.20% | By tenor | Over 60s with a lump sum |
| Falah Term Deposits (maturity) | 7.17% at 1 to 6 months; 7.34% at 1 year; 7.57% at 3 and 5 years | Maturity | Lump sums |
| Alfa Term Deposit Islamic | 8.61% to 9.18% | By tenor, from Rs 500 | App-booked deposits |
The October 2026 weightages sheet explains how those rates come about. The profit sharing ratio between the bank as Mudarib and depositors as Rabbul Maal is 50:50 for October, September and August. Within the depositors' half, each product carries a weightage: Falah Mahana Amdani 1.6611, the Musharakah Savings Account 1.6075, and the Senior Citizens account 1.7280 for October. A higher weightage means a larger slice of the pool's distributable profit per rupee, which is why the senior citizens account pays more than the standard savings account from the same pool. The highest profit rate comparison ranks Alfalah against the rest.
One number for context: Meezan Bank's rate sheet for the month ended 30 September 2026 shows its standard rupee savings account at 6.63% for balances up to Rs 10 million. Alfalah's Musharaka account at 7.06% for August beat that, though the months differ and both move with the policy rate, which the State Bank held at 11.5% on 14 September 2026. The gap on term deposits runs the other way at longer tenors, which the car and home sections below do not change.
Alfalah Islamic Auto Finance: the Ijarah structure and what it costs
The product page describes Bank Alfalah Islamic Auto Finance as a rental agreement under which the bank buys the car and rents it to you for an agreed period. You place a security deposit, the bank owns the car and carries the ownership risk, and at the end you either buy the car for the agreed amount or return it and take your deposit back. The key fact statement for July to December 2026 lists three product variants, Ijarah, Diminishing Musharakah and a Residual Value option, and covers new and used cars, locally manufactured and imported. The page says rentals start only after delivery, no advance rental is taken, and the bank pays the takaful contribution and registration as its ownership expense, with takaful included in the rental as a cost component under the AAOIFI standard the State Bank has adopted. Withholding tax on the transaction is borne by the bank.
- Security deposit: minimum 30%, with the online calculator offering steps up to 75%
- Tenor: up to five years for cars of 1000cc or less and three years above 1000cc on the product page; the KFS form runs from 12 to 84 months across variants
- Pricing: fixed or variable, with variable priced off 1-year KIBOR plus a spread stated in your offer letter and revised on each contract anniversary
- Minimum income: Rs 25,000 a month salaried, Rs 50,000 a month self-employed; age 21 to 60 for government employees, 21 to 65 private sector, 21 to 70 self-employed
- Employment proof: three months permanent or six months contractual, or one year in the current business
- Documents: application form, CNIC or NICOP, two photographs, salary slip, six months of bank statements, proof of business if self-employed
The charges are where an Ijarah differs from a loan in ways you can measure. Documentation and processing charges are Rs 13,500 per application, plus Rs 3,000 for a co-applicant. A returned cheque costs Rs 750. Late payment is charged at 30% a year on the overdue rental from the due date to the payment date, but the KFS and the FAQ both state that this amount goes to a charity account supervised by the Shariah Board and is not bank income. Early buy-out is allowed at any time by exercising the undertaking to purchase: you settle outstanding rentals plus the buy-out price in the schedule, and the KFS lists a charge of 6% of the outstanding asset value, less the security deposit for Ijarah cases, at settlement. Repossession agent charges run up to Rs 125,000, warehouse charges Rs 3,000 a month, and the bank reports default to the SBP's eCIB.
Two protections matter. If the car is stolen or written off, rentals stop immediately because you only pay for use, and the bank can take proportionate rent only for the days you had it; the security deposit is refunded after netting rentals due, any takaful shortfall caused by your negligence, cheque charges and charity. If the applicant dies, the bank may continue the facility with the heirs under a new contract or offer them the car at the buy-out price, but cannot force them to buy. The product is priced off KIBOR like every bank in the Islamic car financing comparison, which does not include Alfalah, and the car financing hub sets out the questions to ask at the branch. A separate Roshan Apni Car variant serves non-resident Pakistanis, and Instant Auto Finance can be started inside Alfa.
Home finance: Home Musharakah and the Roshan and government variants
Bank Alfalah's housing product is Home Musharakah, a Diminishing Musharakah under which you and the bank buy the property together and you buy out the bank's share while paying rent on the part you do not yet own. The home finance page lists four routes: Home Musharakah for residents, Roshan Apna Ghar for non-resident Pakistanis with a NICOP, Islamic Green Finance for solar installations, and the government's Wazir-e-Azam Apna Ghar programme. The product page itself does not print the spread, finance-to-value limit or tenor; those sit in the key fact statement. Our seven-bank home financing rates comparison read that document, and the home financing hub explains the contract. Treat the rate as quote-only until you hold the offer letter.
The Alfa app and the schedule of charges
Alfa is the reason many customers pick this window. The app page says you can open an Islamic account with a CNIC or passport number, apply for a debit card, book a term deposit, invest in Islamic mutual funds and sukuk, send Raast transfers free of charge, pay more than 4,000 billers, convert foreign currency, set limits, reactivate a dormant account and update KYC without visiting a branch. Daily transaction limits run in packages from Rs 250,000 to Rs 1 million for standard customers, Rs 2 million for Premier, Rs 3 million for current account holders and up to Rs 10 million for Infinite, with higher safe-location limits available. The window also offers Alfa Islamic BNPL, which it describes as Pakistan's first Shariah-compliant buy-now-pay-later facility, and Islamic mutual funds that are run by Alfalah Asset Management.
The Islamic schedule of charges for July to December 2026 is published in English and Urdu with an addendum for digital banking, and the archive goes back to 2021. We did not price every line, so before opening an account check the items that usually matter: the fee for a cheque book, the annual debit card fee for the card variant you want, the charge for an SMS alert subscription, inter-bank transfer costs outside Raast, and whether any minimum balance fee applies to the account type you choose. Asaan and Alfa digital accounts are marketed as zero-deposit, which is the right starting point for a first account.
Who should choose Alfalah Islamic over Meezan or HBL Islamic
Choose Bank Alfalah Islamic if you want a window with dated product-level fatwas, a named board chaired by an SBP Shariah Advisory Committee member, a savings rate that was above Meezan's standard account in the latest months published, and an app that can do almost everything a branch can. Choose it for car finance if you want a conventional-style process with the Ijarah protections spelled out in the KFS and you can fund a 30% deposit. Choose Meezan instead if you want a full-fledged Islamic bank whose entire balance sheet is Islamic today and a wider certificate range at the longer tenors. Choose HBL Islamic if branch reach in smaller towns is the deciding factor. For a saver who wants the best Islamic savings account and is happy with a window, Alfalah is a strong default; for a buyer who objects to windows on principle, the fatwa documents will not change your mind, and a full-fledged bank is the honest answer.
